One of Britain’s favourite hot dishes that originated from England, but is now known as the nations favourite takeaway food.

As a lot of my one day private tours from Edinburgh include a day trip to St. Andrews, what better way to plan my groups lunch on our bespoke Scottish tour than a stop at Anstruther fish and chip shop.

With several small fishing villages along the east coast of Fife, you have a great selection of chip shops in this area on your private tour of Scotland. With chippy’s (Scottish slang for chip shop) all over Scotland prising themselves with fresh fish, and why not when you have so much of it coming in daily from the North Sea.

With fish and chip shops first appearing in the uk in the late 19th century, by the 1930’s there was over 35000 shops across the nation, even through the two world wars the British government safeguarded the supply of fish and potatoes, with this fish was never rationed through these times.

But be on your toes if you’re ordering fish and chips on your exclusive vacation in Scotland, as in Glasgow or the west side of the country it’s salt and vinegar you season it with, but on the east side mainly Edinburgh it’s strictly salt and sauce that goes with your poke of fish and chips.

But throughout your private tour of Scotland, one you can be guaranteed is you’ll never be far away from a Scottish chippy.
